Breech-mender

I cried out for help
and in the silence
I heard a voice,
like my voice
but from deep in a dream,
ringed in song and sleep.
I heard Him declare,
“yes, I am here.”

and so I cried,
“Lord, I am deprived,
have become
the afflicted one
you once saved!”

but He replied,
“Be quiet. For
In the silence
of your soul
I’ll make
a cool river flow.

Water-gardens will spring forth
as I lift you, fortify you
until with your strong arms
I’ll raise the shattered walls,
mend the breaches
that separate men,
and restore to life
the peaceful lanes
for the innocent
children of Homs
to play.

About sfederle

I turned 60 this year... that used to sound old to me, but now I'm not so sure. There is a difference, to be sure, from the warm, summer mornings of 50 or 40... and a world of difference from the hot afternoon of 20... but its hardly a winter day.. more like a pleasant, crisp autumn afternoon, raking leaves, looking forward to a 49ers game tomorrow. I am a teacher. I teach writing and thinking to children in grades 6-8 at a Catholic school, and older children (an actual adults) at Solano College. I love my job! And I write... daily.. sometime more than daily. I earned my BA in English and Russian at Ohio State University during the Nixon administration, and my MA in English at San Jose State during the Reagan administration (I've not got a good track record in picking winners as I voted McGovern and Mondale... but I definitely voted well). My wife and I have two wonderful sons (all grown up now) and just celebrated 38 years of marriage. Life is good.
